DEWEY WIESE
Dewey W. Wiese, son of Louie and Elsa Boyens Wiese of Manilla Manor, served in the Army in the 2nd Rocket F.A. Battalion. He entered the service September 10, 1951.

He departed in February, 1952, for overseas duty in Korea, and returned to the United States May 20, 1952. He served in the Active Reserves until his discharge October 1, 1959. He received the following medals: Distinguished Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, and United Nations Service Medal.

Funeral services for Dewey D. Wiese were held Thursday, December 7, 1995, at 2:00 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home, Manilla, Iowa. Reverend Kenneth Ritchie of the United Church of Manilla, Manilla, Iowa, officiated the service.

Interment was held in Nishnabotna Cemetery, Manilla, Iowa with Kyle Wiese, Lonnie Hargens, Scott Bandow, Larry Justice, Marvin Vennink, and Jeff Jones as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were Harvey Christensen, Ronnie Hiatt, Larry Jorgensen and Gilbert Bandow. Military honors were provided by Emil Ewoldt Post 22 of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars ,Post 3517, both of Manning.

Dewey Dean, son of Louie and Elsa Boyens Wiese, was born June 14, 1930, near Botna, Iowa. He graduated from Manilla High School in 1948. After graduation he worked for the Milwaukee Road.

On August 29, 1951 Dewey was united in marriage with Jerene Huffaker at the United Methodist Church in Manilla. The next month he entered the United States Army. He served during the Korean Conflict, as a compassman, receiving his honorable discharge in 1953. Dewey returned to Manilla and worked for the Milwaukee Road. Following his work on the railroad Dewey worked for Gruhn Hybrid, for the Manilla schools, in partnership in a Golden Sun feed store, and for American Protein in Manning. While working for American Protein, Dewey suffered a stroke in 1990 and was forced to retire. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and, following his service years, he was a member of the American Legion Post 132 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517.

For the past month, following surgery, Dewey's health failed and he died on Monday, December 4, 1995 at the Manning General Hospital, Manning, Iowa, at the age of 65 years, 5 months and 20 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marcella Johnson, and a brother-in-law, Eddie Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Jerene, of Manilla; his children: Darla Wiese, Drew Wiese, and Jerlyn and her husband, Rick Fox, all of Norfolk, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Dustin Wiese, of Manilla and Jade Fox, of Norfolk, Nebraska; a brother, Milford Wiese and his wife, Norma, of Manning; a sister, Donna Hargens, of Manning; two brothers-in-law: Rollin Huffaker and his wife, Janelle, of Aurora, Colorado and Rodney Huffaker and his wife, Connie, of Kansas City, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
