Dale Allen Johnson, age 82, of Glidden passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Regency Park in Carroll surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the Glidden United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Camara officiating. Organist for the service will be Mary Ross and vocalists will be Mark and Marlys Conner. Casket bearers will be will Dale's grandchildren. Honorary casket bearers will be Doug Glackin, Kreg Lensch, Kevin Litterer, Tom Weber, Jerry Callender, Kenard Carstens, Len Carstens, Roger Kuhl, Bryan Stearns and Wayne Minchow. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden with military honors conducted by the Merle Hay Post of the American Legion.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse from 5 - 7 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a Masonic Memorial Service at 7 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Born on August 31, 1934, in Table Rock, Nebraska, he was the son of Orval and Frances (Morse) Johnson. Dale grew up in Table Rock where he graduated from high school in 1952 and was all-state on the football team for two years. Following high school he worked with his father on the farm for one year before enlisting in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, for two years. Following his military service, Dale attended Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska, where he played football and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies and Physical Education. He was married to Sharon Freeman on February 25, 1956, at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont, Nebraska. The couple made their home in South Sioux City, Nebraska, for two years where Dale taught high school and coached football. They moved to Manning, Iowa, in 1959 where he was the head football coach and taught Social Studies and Biology. His Manning team won the Midwest conference football title two times. In 1964, the Johnsons moved to Hayes, Kansas, where Dale took a job selling text books to the schools. They then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where Dale received his Master's Degree in Education. After receiving his Master's Degree they moved to Guthrie Center where Dale taught Biology, coached track, and the football team winning the conference. In 1966 they moved to Glidden where Dale was hired as the Glidden - Ralston High School Principal and started the girls track program. He became Superintendent of the school in 1973 and retired in 2002. After retirement Dale served as Superintendent of the Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne School System for three years. He was a member of Glidden United Methodist Church where he held several offices, the Merle Hay Post of the Glidden American Legion, and the Haggai Masonic Lodge. He was honored as the Grand Marshall of the Glidden Memorial Day Parade two times and the Glidden - Ralston High School Homecoming Parade many times. Dale loved attending his grandchildren children's sporting events and other school activities, going on fishing trips to Canada with his sons and grandsons, and spending time with his family.

Dale is survived by his wife Sharon of 61 years of Glidden; a daughter Kim Hegemann of Fulton, Missouri; two sons: Brian Johnson (JoAnn) of Glidden and Bob Johnson of Glidden; six grandchildren: Mandy Hoffman (Charles) of Adel, Jeremiah Johnson (Dana) of Glidden, Seth Johnson (fiancée Christina Grimm) of Cedar Rapids, and Emma, Zach, and Grace Hegemann of Fulton, Missouri; two great-grandchildren Charlotte and Weslie; a sister Joan Marfice of Maryville, Missouri; a brother Keith Johnson (Lois) of Tacoma, Washington; a sister-in-law Delores Maxey of Lawton, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law Kathy Freeman of Boulder, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents Orval and Frances Johnson and his mother and father-in-law George and Verna Freeman.
