Dale worked on the farm until he was drafted into the Army in April of 1964. He was sent overseas to West Germany where he spent 13 months.
In March 1966, he was discharged and spent another year of inactive duty. Dale was a member of the Manning VFW Post #3517 and the Emil Ewoldt Post #22 American Legion.


DALE FREDRICK DAMMANN

Dale, son of William and Arla Lohrmann Dammann, was born July 23, 1942 in Iowa Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed by Pastor Ansorge at Zion Lutheran Church. Dale attended rural school and graduated from Manning High School in 1960.

On May 20, 1967 Dale was united in marriage with Carolyn Sue Bear of Van Meter at the Zion Lutheran Church, Manning. Two children were born to this union. Dale served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. He worked as a hired man for one year before coming home to farm with his father northwest of Manning. Besides enjoying his farming, he found pleasure in hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.

Dale was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517 and Emil Ewoldt Post 22 of the American Legion, as well as a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Dale died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday evening, January 15, 1995 at the age of 52 years, 5 months, and 23 days.

He was preceded in death by his father, William; a sister, Betty Schoba; a brother-in-law, Kenny Page; and his mother and father-inlaw, Fred and Vera Bear.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, of Manning; his son, Douglas Dammann and his wife, Karol, of Manning; his daughter, Shannon Dammann and her fiance, Cory Honold, of Coon Rapids; two grandchildren: Kayla and Alex Dammann, both of Manning; his mother, Arla Dammann, of Manning; a sister, Ruby and her husband, Allen Vinke, of Lee Summitt, Missouri; a brother, Dave Dammann and his wife, Linda, of Ralston, Nebraska; a brotherin-law, Gil Schoba, of Manilla; two sistersin-law: Mary and her husband, Larry Gordon, of Winterset and Betty Page, of Osceola; two brothers-in-law: Roy Bear and his wife, Dorothy, of Weldon and Don Bear and his wife, Carol, of Winterset; many aunts uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
