Donald Wiese was born April 17, 1925, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Detlef Wiese and Alma Kruetzfeldt. He died May 16, 1978, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, at the age of 53.

Donald was raised on a farm and attended the Vail Public Schools where he received his formal education. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict where he received the Purple Heart.

When he returned from the military to Vail he did farming work. He later became the night policeman in Vail retiring in 1974 as the day Street Commissioner. For a period of time in his career he worked for C.W. Suter & Son of Sioux City, Nebraska, during the building of the Ar-We-Va Schools.

Donald was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and an usher. He was also a member of the Vail Fire Department, and the American Legion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister Adelaide.

Survivors include, nine brothers, Leslie of Manning, George of Charter Oak, Raymond, Elmer and Alvin, all of Vail, Leonard of Omaha, Nebraska, Emil of Arcadia, Wilmer also of Vail and Clarence of Denison and by three sisters, Mrs. Viola Dozark of Vail, Mrs. Ila Crampton of Omaha and Vera, Mrs. Lester Morton of Vail.

Funeral services were held May 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church, Vail. Burial was in the Vail Cemetery. The Rev. Harold McConnell officiated at the services.

Honorary pallbearers included, Darrell Wiese, David Linberg, David Wiese, Dennis Morton, Randy Wiese and Carl Wiese.

Pallbearers were Louis Popp, Chad Popp, John Linberg, Emil Segebart, George Ballentine, and Mick Buck.

Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.
