David George Vogl


David was inducted into the Army in August 1975. He took his basic training and the Wheeled Mechanics course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He also served at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Osan, Korea. SP-4 Vogl received the Good Conduct Medal and was discharged August 28, 1978. He is a member of American Legion and a lifetime member of VFW.


In Memory of David Vogl

Mass of the Christian Burial was held for David Vogl Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, Iowa.

Celebrant was Father James McAlpin of the Sacred Heart Church, Manning, Iowa.

Music was provided by the Sacred Heart Choir with Anne Muhlbauer as organist. Lector was Tammy Vogl Martin.

Interment was held in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Manning, Iowa.

Military Honors were provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517 and American Legion Post 22.

Honorary casketbearers were Ron Vogl, Pat Vogl, Bill Vogl, Jake Muhlbauer, Wayne Sell, Jason Vogl, and Paul Cumpton.

Casketbearers were Butch Hugeback, Mark Patzner, Ron Lutwitze, Tom Walters, Dale Pfannkuch, Michael Brincks and Mike Rohe.


David George, son of Felix Sr. and Hilda Kasperbauer Vogl, was born May 11, 1953, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up near Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1972.

On November 10, 1972, Dave enlisted in the United States Army. He attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and served as a tracked vehicle mechanic in Korea and Fort Bragg, North Carolina before receiving his honorable discharge on November 7, 1975. Dave then returned to Iowa and worked as a tractor-trailer mechanic at Crouse Cartage Company in Carroll until 1998.

Dave was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll, a member of the American Legion Post 22 and a life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517, both in Manning. He enjoyed deer hunting, watching old television shows and working on his cars and pickup.

On Saturday, September 21, 2002, Dave died at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, following a five-year battle with cancer. He was 49 years, 4 months and 10 days of age.

Besides his. parents, Dave was preceded in death by a sister Joan Malone; two brothers Paul Vogl and Felix Vogl Jr.; and grandparents Paul and Catherin Kasparbauer and Anton and Grace Vogl.

He is survived by brothers and sisters: Ron Vogl and wife Gay Lynn of Manning; Judy and husband Jerry Muhlbauer of Halbur; Dory and husband Wayne Sell of Silver City; Marge and husband Paul Cumpton of Omaha, Nebraska; Pat Vogl of Council Bluffs; Bill Vogl of Neola; thirteen nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
