Delmus E. Hacker

Cpl. Delmus E. Hacker, son of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Hacker, was drafted February 1, 1951, into the Army.
He attended cook and baker school at Fort Benning, Georgia. He went to Korea, and was assigned to 821st Q.M.C., March 22 to December 27.
He was discharged January 30, 1953, at Camp Carson, Colorado.


DELMUS E. HACKER
Delmus E. Hacker, 66, died Saturday, December 24, 1994, at his home in Gray.

Mass of the Christian burial for Mr. Hacker will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 1994, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Audubon with the Rev. Michael Berner officiating.

Burial will be in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Audubon. Military graveside services will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3517 and American Legion Post No. 22, both of Manning.

Casket bearers will be Brian Bruch, Robert Bruch, Bob Ewoldt, Doug Hilsabeck, Tony Hilsabeck and Jon Meislahn. Honorary casket bearers will be Steve Andersen, John Bolick, George Campbell, Roy Gittins, Larry Kendle, Herman Meislahn, Roger Olson, Virgil Schmidt, Earl Steffen, Mike Wede, and Ray Wede.

A rosary and wake service was held this afternoon at Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

He was born April 13, 1928, on his parents' farm near Templeton, a son of William and Selma (Friedrichsen) Hacker.

Mr. Hacker was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton and attended rural schools near there. He attended high school in Manning then helped operate the family farm.

In February 1951, he was inducted into the Army and served in Korea. Mr. Hacker was honorably discharged in February 1953 and returned home to farm with his parents.

He and Rose Sporrer were married April 17, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham. The Hackers lived near Templeton for a year then moved west of Gray and farmed until Mr. Hacker retired in 1981. They then moved to their present home near Gray.

A former Gray City Councilman, Mr. Hacker served on the Gray Fire Department. He was also member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Audubon, the American Legion Post No. 22 and VFW Post No. 3517 of Manning, the Gray Hunters and a local ham radio club.

Survivors include his wife, Rose, of Gray; five children, Nancy Grimm and her husband, Curtis, of Aspinwall, Daryl Hacker and his wife, Marcia, of Gray, Rhonda Anthofer and her husband, Danny, of Coon Rapids, Denny Hacker and his wife, Jenny, of Manning, Donna Kemper and her husband, Joea, of Templeton; six grandchildren; his mother, Selma Hacker, of Manning; a brother, Harry Hacker, of Templeton; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Hacker, of Templeton.

Mr. Hacker was preceded in death by his father, William; a brother, Robert; his parents-in-law, Rose and Joseph Sporrer; and an infant daughter, Mary Rose Hacker.
