Charles Wulf Dies In Veterans' Hospital

Word reached Remsen late last night of the death of Charles Wulf, 60 year old veteran of World War I and a resident of Remsen community 38 years, died in the Veterans Hospital at Sioux Falls, on January 23, 1957.

Mr. Wulf, in failing health the past six months, was admitted to the hospital three months ago and but little hope was held out for his recovery. He passed away at 11:30 o'clock last night.

Born on a farm near Manning in Audubon County May 13, 1896, he was the son of Ferdinand and Elizabeth (Boldt) Wulf, worked for his father on the farm and enlisted in the army during the first world war. He served one year and was discharged at Fort Des Moines.

He came to Remsen in 1919 and worked for various farmers about 8 years, then moved into town and variously was employed at light work, lastly for the Veterans of Foreign Wars at their Servicemen's club.

Mr. Wulf never married.

During his long period of residence here he was a popular member of the American Legion and one of the local post's most loyal and active members. Mr. Wulf was of quiet nature, an honest worker and a loyal friend and his death causes general regret over the countryside.

The body is being brought to Remsen by the Moeller funeral home which will have charge of funeral arrangements. Services conducted by the Rev. Paul Wuebben of St. Paul's Church, will be held at the funeral home Saturday afternoon at one o'clock and the body will be taken to Manning, his old home, for burial. The Legion and V.F.W. organizations will accord military honors.

Surviving Mr. Wulf is one brother, Edward Wulf of Le Mars, and one sister, Mrs. Gust Paape of Dodge Center, Minnesota.

Preceding him in death were five brothers and two sisters.
