Charley Burl Weems 84, of Botna died at the Manning Plaza May 1, 1982. Services were held Monday, May 3, 1982 at 2 PM at the Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, with Rev. Louis H. Miller of the Calvary Baptist Church, Manning, officiating. Following the services fellowship and lunch were held at the American Legion Hall.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 3, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Louis Miller, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Bonita Hagedorn was organist and Judy Joens soloist. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery with military rites by Manning American Legion Post No. 22 and Manning Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3517.
Active pallbearers were members of the two veteran organizations. Serving as honorary bearers were Ernest Ehlers, Wayne Justice, Harry Lamaack, Marvin Linde, Everett Christensen, Harold Scott, Pete Newell, and Billy Taggart.
Mr. Weems is survived by two brothers: Newton, Hennessey, Oklahoma; and Eldon Weems, Manning; two sisters-in-law: Mabel Weems, Manning; and Clara Weems Crouch, Irwin; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Ralph, Earl, and Homer Weems.
Mr. Weems was born November 14, 1897, in Greene County, a son of Charley and Rosa (Millett) Weems. He spent most of his life farming in the Botna area.
A World War II Veteran with the 95th U.S. Airborne Division, he was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
