Clayton joined the Navy; but became sea sick so spent the war in Colorado as an Office Clerk. He was a T Sergeant.
Clayton was married a short time to Maxine Nickum of Manning.
He later married Lucille Flederman from Dedham.
Manning Monitor November 29, 1979 Clayton Stangl, 66, Dedham tavern operator until his retirement in 1974, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines. He had been in failing health for several years. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church in Dedham with the Rev. Henry Meyer, Pastor, officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. Stangl was born Dec. 6, 1912 at Arcadia, a son of John and Nettie Pille Stangl. He spent most of his life in the Dedham and Coon Rapids areas. He was married Feb. 25, 1944 to Lucille Fledderman at Colorado Springs, Colo. A veteran of World War II, he served with U.S. forces from June 6, 1942 to Jan. 1, 1946. After returning from service, he worked for the Garst Company at Coon Rapids and operated a corn-shelling business at Dedham. In 1957, he opened the East Side Tavern there. His wife preceded him in death on March 28, 1973. He was also preceded by four brothers. Mr. Stangl was a member of St. Joseph's Church at Dedham and DeWitt Laustanau Post, American Legion, at Dedham. |
