Charles F. Ramsey


CS/3 Charles Ramsey is the son of John & Edna (Pfannkuch) Ramsey and he graduated from Manning High School in 1966.

On October 18, 1966, Charles left for basic training along with Gary Odendahl, Virgil Hass, and Steven Atkins to take basic training in San Diego, California (Company 614).

After graduation in 1967 Gary, Steve, and Charles received orders to report to Bremerton, Washington, to serve on the USS Sterett DLG31. The U.S.S. Sterett was commissioned on April 8, 1967, in Bremerton, Washington.

In 1968 Charles received orders to report to the U.S.S. Piedmont AD17 (home port of San Diego, Calfornia). Charles went on 2 West PAC (Pacific Asian Cruise) tours on the U.S.S. Piedmont.
Charles was honorably discharged on August 4, 1970, with the rank of E4.

Charles "Tub" F. Ramsey, age 72, of Manning, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at the Manning Cemetery with Rev. David Rauch officiating. Military honors will be given by the Manning American Legion and VFW. Born on March 1, 1947, in Manning, Iowa, he was the son of John L. and Edna (Pfannkuch) Ramsey. Tub, as he was known to most, grew up in Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1966. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years on the USS Piedmont and the USS Sterett.

Upon his honorable discharge in 1970 he moved back to Manning and worked for Manning Ag Center until moving to Omaha where he worked for Earl May in Council Bluffs. Tub then lived in San Diego, California, for three years where he worked in an office supply company and then moved back to Omaha and worked for Raiders Office Supply until his retirement. He moved back to Manning in 2007 and did maintenance work at the Terrace Apartments where he lived. Chuck enjoyed fishing, cooking and traveling. Tub will be truly missed by his family, especially his nieces and nephews, who he dearly loved.

Tub is survived three brothers: Keith Pfannkuch (Marilyn) of Manning, John Ramsey, Jr. (Lois) of Manning, and Lynn Dean Ramsey (Kathy) of Templeton; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and many goods friends. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Edna Ramsey. He is also preceded in death by his good friend Tom Kohoutek and his beloved dog Troy.
