Marvin Bruch

1985 VFW Commander

At this point in time I have 1 military picture but very little military information about Marvin's service.

This is what I had intended on following up with Marvin but we never got together before he passed away...

Here are some questions that I will have Marvin fill out. I started this questionnaire based on his discharge and 2 other papers he gave me to scan.
To save me some time - any Manning connected Veteran who has NOT written down and provided me their military information - please start laying out your history which will help me avoid having to lay out a list of my own.
I won't know where/when you served so it will be difficult for me to create a questionnaire for you.

Marvin Felix, son of Arthur and Regina (Grossman) Bruch, was born August 17, 1944, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up on a farm south of Arcadia. Marvin attended grade school at St. John's in Arcadia and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1962. Marvin then farmed with his father until he entered the U.S. Army in 1966.

On May 14, 1966, Marvin was united in marriage with Rita Broich at St. John's Catholic Church in Arcadia. Marvin was stationed in Alabama for a short time before being sent to Germany where he spent 18 months. Upon being discharged, he returned to Iowa and he and Rita made their home on a farm near Manning. Marvin also drove truck.

They retired from farming in 2010, and Marvin continued to drive truck part-time. During retirement, Marvin also pursued his passion of restoring old tractors and raising sweet corn.

Marvin served as a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manning, where he taught CCD for 13 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Knights of Columbus. Marvin cherished spending time with his grandchildren, playing board games and cards, taking walks together, having sleepovers, and attending their ballgames and school activities. He always enjoyed listening to them, their thoughts and plans.

In the fall of 2015, Marvin was diagnosed with cancer and was able to remain strong until recently. On Saturday, April 24, 2021, Marvin passed away at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, at the age 76 years, 8 months, and 7 days of age.
