William Frank Vogl


William was inducted into the U.S. Air Force in June 1977. He took his basic training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. He took Telephone Communication Equipment Repair schooling at Sheppard AFB, Texas, and was a Telephone Communication Equipment repairman (TCER) at Andrews AFB, Maryland, then to Keflavik AFB, Iceland. He was an Honor Graduate from TCER School at Sheppard AFB, received the Good Conduct Medal and Marksman Award. William was honorably discharged in June 1981 with the rank of Sergeant.

Mass of Christian Burial for William F. "Bill" Vogl was held June 10, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Manning, Iowa. Celebrant was Father Leo Reisberg. Mass servers were Ben Danner and Jason Meyer.
Music was provided by the Sacred Heart Choir with Maureen Halbur as organist. Lector was Tammy Vogl Martin.
Burial with Military Honors was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning, Iowa. The American Legion Post 22 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517 of Manning had the Military Honors.
Casketbearers were Wes Dammann, Ben Puck, Rick Dammann, Marc Arp, Jason Vogl, Todd Muhlbauer, and Scott Muhlbauer.

William Frank "Bill", son of Felix Sr. and Hilda Kasperbauer Vogl, was born February 4, 1959, near Manning, Iowa. He attended school in Manning, graduating with the Manning High School Class of 1977.

From 1977 to 1981, Bill served in telephone communications with the United States Air Force. He attained the rank of Airman First Class and was stationed in California, Texas, Maryland and Iceland. Following his honorable discharge, Bill returned to Iowa and attended Metro Tech in Omaha, Nebraska specializing in electronics. He worked a short time for Cox Cable. For the last 19 years Bill worked in several capacities for Griffin Pipe in Council Bluff, Iowa. He enjoyed woodworking, remodeling his home and doing light mechanic work.

On Friday, June 6, 2003, Bill died unexpectedly at his home in Neola, Iowa. He was 44 years, 4 months and 3 days of age.

Preceding Bill in death are his parents; a sister Joan Malone; three brothers Paul Vogl, Felix Vogl Jr., and David Vogl; grandparents Paul and Catherin Kasperbauer and Anton and Grace Vogl.

He is survived by two sons Zachary and William Vogl of Council Bluffs; brothers and sisters Ron Vogl and wife Gay Lynn of Manning; Judy and husband Jerry Muhlbauer of Halbur; Dory and husband Wayne Sell of Silver City; Marge and husband Paul Cumpton of Omaha, Nebraska; Pat Vogl of Council Bluffs; eleven nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
