LaVern Robert Bald, age 73, of Manning, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Manning Regional Healthcare Center.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church at Hausbarn Heritage Park near Manning with Pastor Jonathan Conner officiating. Organist for the service will be Carolyn Kerkhoff and congregational Hymns will be "Beautiful Saviour," "I'm But a Stranger Here," and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Casket bearers will be Jonnie Meislahn, Ron Rothe, Lynn Mohr, Lynn Kruse, Stan Baack, and Steve Renze.

Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Manning American Legion and VFW.

Visitation will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning from 5 - 7 P.M. on Tuesday and resume at Trinity Lutheran Church at Hausbarn Heritage Park on Wednesday at 9:30 A.M. Born on March 1, 1945, at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Herman and Irene (David) Bald. LaVern grew up on a farm south of Manning and attended Audubon High School. He was baptized on March 5, 1945, and confirmed on March 22, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Audubon. LaVern served two years in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Manning and farmed his family's farm. LaVern also owned and operated LaVern Bald Trucking for many years. He was married to Judy Bruggeman on August 18, 1990, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. LaVern was an active member of Trinity and Zion Lutheran Churches in Manning and he served as Elder at both. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, restoring tractors, and going to the Spencer Fair.

LaVern is survived by his wife Judy of Manning; a son Jeff Bald (Sharon) of Arion: a daughter Carrie Bald of Exira; five grandchildren; his brother Duane Bald (Shirley) of Arcadia; a sister-in-law Peggy McElroy (Dave) of Omaha; two step-children; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

LaVern was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Irene Bald; his mother and father-in-law Leland and Ida Bruggeman; and a brother-in-law Leslie Bruggeman.
