TWO CARROLL COUNTY SOLDIERS
Who are nearing completion of a 14-week training cycle at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri,
are Private Herbert C. Eich of Halbur and Private Anthony W. Williams, Route 2,
Manning. Both are with a unit of the 6th Armored Division. As trainees, they
received six weeks' basic training in the fundamentals of Army life and the use
of infantry weapons. They are now completing an additional eight weeks'
engineer training. At the end of their 14-week training cycle with the famed
"Super Sixth," the men will either be sent to specialist schools or
as replacements to other units.

Mr. Williams, 68, of rural Taopi, Minnesota, a former Weyerhaeuser Co. employee, died Monday, July 22, 1996 at Austin Medical Center.
Born March 30, 1928, in Manning, Iowa, he grew up on a farm near Halbur, Iowa, attended St. Augustine School in Halbur, and served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. On August 18, 1953, he married Anita Sibenaller at Holy Angel Church in Rosella, Iowa. They lived in Carroll, Iowa, and he was employed by Pepsi-Cola Co. until 1960, when they moved to their present farm near Taopi. Mr. Williams worked for Weyerhaeuser Co. in Austin from 1969 to 1987. He was a member of the Adams American Legion Post, Olaf B. Damm Post 1216 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth of Adams and Kevin of Taopi; three daughters, Mary (Mrs. Donald) Sylvester of Minneapolis, Donna (Mrs. Gary) Barclay of Austin and Lisa Williams of Bloomington, Minnesota; four grandchildren; four brothers, Cyril and Raymond, both of Halbur; Virgil of Roselle, Iowa; and Louis of Carroll; and four sisters, Rita Meier of Owatonna, Minnesota; Martha (Mrs. Walter) Reisberg of Arcadia, Iowa; Catherine Irlmeier of Manning, Iowa; and Ida Hoffmann of Carroll. He was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home in Adams, where the rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. today.
