Meet in Southwest Pacific
It's a small world. It has been reported that Pvt. Barney Stangl and Amos Sinn, both of this vicinity, ran across each other in the far Southwest Pacific recently and had a good chat about the home town.

Home First Time After 38 Months
Amos Sinn (Pharmacist's Mate First Class) is home on his first furlough since entering the navy 38 months ago, 26 of which have been overseas at Espiritu Santo, New Hebrides, in hospital work.
He arrived in San Francisco on May 11 and called his parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Sinn, on May 12th, Mothers Day. He was met by his wife in Omaha and both came to Manning for a few days. Tuesday afternoon they went to Denison to visit her parents and to look after business interests there.

Amos has a 30-day furlough. He is a member of the noted Lion Group which created a new advance hospital base.

Dr. and Mrs. Sinn's other son, Karl (Baker 1st class) is stationed in Hawaii. He has been in the service since Jan. 7, 1942. He is a scientific baker and analyzes flour and other materials.
He states that he likes his work and is satisfied with his location.

Amos J. Sinn, 68, of Schleswig, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 16, 1983, in a hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, after a long illness.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The Rev. Paul Wiegert will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery at Denison, Iowa, under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Schleswig.

Mr. Sinn was born May 29, 1914, in Manning. He graduated from Manning High School in 1933.

He married Fanchon Nelson September 21, 1941, in Denison.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

In 1947, he moved to Schleswig where he owned and operated Sinn Funeral Service. In 1952 he became affiliated with the Farmers State Bank. He sold his funeral practice to Huebner Funeral Home in Denison in 1976 and retired from the bank as vice president. He continued to serve on the board of directors of the bank.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. R.L. (Karlon) Glau of Spencer and Lindsay Sinn of Lincoln, Nebraska; one brother, Karl of Ardmore, Oklahoma; three sisters, Mrs. A.M. Mac Laughlin of Columbia, Maryland; Mrs. T.L. Norman of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and Mrs. R.S. Erwin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and one granddaughter.
