Five-Star-Flag In Manning Window
Rothmeyer Sons in Widely Scattered Theatres
The five-star service flag in the window of the Mr. and Mrs. John Rothmeyer home at 714 First street, Manning, represents members of the family serving in theatres of operation throughout the world.
Those represented in the flag include four sons and a son-in-law, and their careers read something like this:

1. S. Sgt. Richard Rothmeyer entered the army Dec. 1, 1941, was in Alaska and the Aleutians for 18 months and got a medical discharge at Fort Benning, Ga., Oct. 28, 1944; after nearly three years of service.
2. Cpl. Andrew Rothmeyer entered the army June 4, 1942, was at Fort Riley, Kans., three months then went overseas and arrived in England in September 1942. He has been in France and is now in Germany.
3. Pfc. Mathias Rothmeyer entered the army April 4, 1944, and was stationed in camps in California and Texas until January 1945 and is now on duty in the Hawaiian Island's.
4. Walter Rothmeyer joined the navy April 4, 1945, and is taking boot training at the Great Lakes, Ill., naval training center.
5. Sgt. Edward Proulx, a son-in-law, is in the army and has been overseas since June 1944. For a time he was stationed in India and now is in Burma.

Mr. and John Rothmeyer received a letter Wednesday, September 30, 1942, from their son, Andrew, "somewhere in England." It was their first word from him since the news that he had landed safely. He entered the Army June 4. His serial number is 97198003 and the rest of his address is Private Andrew Rothmeyer, A.P.O. 517 c/o postmaster. New York, New York.


Andrew Rothmeyer Dies;
Carroll Businessman

Andrew Jacob "Andy" Rothmeyer, 50, Carroll businessman and former mayor of Lidderdale, died shortly after noon Wednesday, July 12, 1961, at St. Anthony Hospital, where he had been taken the previous day after suffering a heart attack.

The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul Church, with the Very Rev. Leo Lenz, pastor of Holy Spirit Parish as celebrant. The body is resting at the Twit Funeral Home, where it may be viewed after 7 p.m. Thursday. Rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m. Thursday and at 3, 8, and 8:45 p.m. Friday. Burial will take place in the Carroll City Cemetery.

Mr. Rothmeyer had been a resident of Carroll for the last three years, owning and operating with his wife the A and D Cafe. In addition, he had been city police radio dispatcher for the last 18 months. He served as mayor of Lidderdale from 1960 to 1964 prior to his removal to Carroll.

He was born November 6, 1916, at Dedham, Iowa, to John and Lucy (Mattes) Rothmeyer. He was married in 1951 to Dorothy Breidert at the SS. Peter and Paul rectory in Carroll. He served in World War II with the army and belonged to the American Legion Post at Glidden. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish.

Survivors include his wife; his mother, Mrs. Lucy Rothmeyer of Maple River; five brothers, Clarence of Dedham, Matt of Glidden, Richard of Perry, Walter of Westside, and Robert of Omaha, and a sister, Mrs. Norman (Verna) Price of Storm Lake.
