After receiving his honorable discharge on April 9, 1952, Arlo and Arlene made their home in Manning, where Arlo worked as a hired man for the Opperman Brothers. In 1954, the couple started farming on their own in Hayes Township until 1962 when they had a farm sale. Arlo worked at Farmland Foods from September 1962 until retiring on October 24, 1988. On April 29, 1963, they moved to their new home in Denison.
