Larry Gilbert Hinners, son of Arthur and Loretta (Trecker) Hinners, was born on February 16, 1936, in Manning, Iowa. He attended Ewoldt No. 2 country school for a couple of years before attending St. Augustine School in Halbur through the eighth grade. He graduated from Carroll High School with the Class of 1954. After graduation, Larry farmed with his father for two years and attended Iowa State University for two years. He then returned to farming in the Halbur and Manning area, where he spent his lifetime.
Larry was united in marriage to Janice on June 28, 1958, at St. Mary's Church in Willey. Six children were born to this union. In 1962, Larry and Janice, along with their family, moved to a farm two miles north of Gray. Janice passed away in 1971.
Larry was united in marriage to Della Rudolph on February 25, 1972, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Two children were born to this union, and the couple purchased the family farm later that year.
Larry was a lifetime farmer through and through. He enjoyed planting and watching the crops grow, as well as tending to cattle and hogs. He often said that farming was never work because he truly loved what he did every day. Beginning in the early 2000s, Larry also worked part-time for the Audubon County FSA, measuring grain bins and checking fields.
Larry and Della moved to Manning in 2011, but he never really retired. He continued doing tillage and served as a grain cart operator for his sons during harvest through the spring of 2026.
Larry was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning. No matter where he was, he never missed Sunday Mass. His faith was an important part of his life. He also had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing cards, especially Hearts and Euchre. Larry loved golfing with friends and was a member of both the Manning Men's League and Senior League.
Larry died on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at his home in Manning, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 90 years, 4 months, and 11 days of age.
