SHIRLEY ANN PUCK

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison with burial in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the family.


Shirley Ann Puck was born on January 12, 1938, to Albert A. and Rosa (Schmidt) Puck in Manning, Iowa. She was baptized April 3, 1938, and later confirmed her faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Shirley attended Hayes No. 9 and Lincoln No. 4 country schools, and graduated from Manning High School with the class of 1957.

Shirley worked in the kitchen at the hospital and the college, both in Denison. She also worked various other jobs. Shirley was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. She enjoyed family time, playing BINGO and car rides with friends. She especially enjoyed Dairy Queen chocolate malts, Diet Pepsi and chocolate. Over the last several years, she was a resident at the Denison Care Center.

Shirley passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, April 24, 2023, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 12 days.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Albert A. and Rosa Puck; daughter, Nancy Jean Werneburg and husband, Roger Werneburg, Sr.; sisters: Viola (Les) Boger, Alice (Joe) Stevens, and Delores Puck; brothers: Donald Puck and Lewis Puck; three nephews: Jim (Kay) Puck, Leon Puck, and Duane Boettger; and three step-great-grandchildren: Tad Werneburg, Jr., Ciarra Werneburg and Nick Stone.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Deborah Puck (Travis Daniel) of Carroll; three great-grandchildren: Kaleb Sosa, Lillian Sosa, and Ella Puck; seven step-grandchildren: Sheila Clark of North Carolina, Tad (Teresa) Werneburg, Sr. of Creston, Roger Werneburg Jr. of Creston, Jamie (Amanda) Werneburg of Osceola, Melissa (Josh) Knapp of Creston, Jeremy Werneburg of Carroll, and Nathan Werneburg of Ida Grove; 12 step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; two nieces: Janice Boettger of Dow City and Lynn (Dennis) Salzkorn of Salix; nephew: Eric Vandeventer of Omaha, Nebraska; and other family and friends.
