DIED OF HEART ATTACK
IN STORE AT CARROLL THURSDAY
Obituary from the Manning Monitor, Manning Iowa, Thursday, December 27, 1945:

CARROLL- Funeral Services for Mrs. Ben Steen's father, John George Pencker, 72, who died suddenly of a heart attack at the Thrifty Food Market here early Thursday afternoon were at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Huffman Funeral home. The Rev. Robert M. Peters, minister of the Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in the Manning cemetery.

Mr. Pencker, formerly of Manning, had lived here with the Steen family since 1940.

Born October 17, 1873 in Germany, he came to the United States when nine years old, and resided in Crawford County.
He was married to Miss Emma Hansen at Westside, February 5, 1908.

After farming in Crawford County, Mr. and Mrs. Pencker moved to Manning in 1911. From 1914 to 1937, Mr. Pencker owned and operated the Manning Mustard plant. He also did painting and carpenter work as a side line.

Following the death of his wife in 1937, Mr. and Mrs. Steen lived with him for a year. Since then he had made his home with the Steens.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Steen (Mary), Carroll, and Mrs. Andrew B. Christensen (Emma), Audubon; two grandchildren, Maxine Christensen and Patty Steen, one brother, William Pencker, Denison, and two sisters, Mrs. William Baak, New Ulm, Minnesota, and Mrs. Otto Kusch, Omaha.

Another sister, Mrs. Herman Baak of Ricketts, died in January 1939.

Mr. Pencker was a member of the Methodist Church at Manning.
