Margaret taught Kindergarten through 8th grade at Iowa Township #1 in Crawford county from 1934 to 1936.
From 1944 to 1956 she taught Kindergarten through 8th grade at Ewoldt Township #3 in Carroll county.
Then from 1956 to 1971 she taught 1st grade at the Manning Community School in Manning.
Margaret was married to Ray Ohde who ran Gruhn Hybrid in Manilla for many years.

BORN SEPTEMBER 26, 1915 MANNING, IOWA MARGARET GRUHN OHDE Funeral services for Margaret Gruhn Ohde were held Monday, September 4, 1989 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Manning. Officiating the service was Reverend Marshall Brown with Connie Siepker as organist and Brian Pfoltner and Judy Joens as vocalists. Interment was in the Manning City Cemetery with Harold Jurgensen, Mike Gruhn, Ray Jorgensen, Roger Vollstedt, Selmer Hodne and Herb Bruhn as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were George Fischer, Paul Bjorkgren, Leonard Gallagher, Wayne Curlile. Also, the family was privileged to have the Honorable Terry Branstad, Governor of the State of Iowa, in attendance as an honorary casketbearer.
Margaret, daughter of August and Minnie Ranniger Gruhn, was born September 26, 1915
at Manning, Iowa. The family later made their home near Manilla where Margaret attended
school. She was graduated with Manilla High School class of 1933. She attended Iowa
State Teacher's College (UNI) at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Margaret taught in rural schools for 14 years and in the Manning Community School System for 20 years. During her teaching years Margaret attended classes at Drake University where she received her B.A. Degree in 1962. She retired from teaching in 1976. Margaret was an active member of many professional organizations and served as president of the Rural Teachers Organization and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a lifetime member of the I. S.E.A., N.E.A., and American Association of University Women. Margaret was an active member in Republican politics, particularly in Carroll County where she served as chairperson in campaigns for Governor Branstad through both Lt. Governor and Governor elections. Governor Branstad appointed her to the Nomination Committee for the Judicial Court in District 6.
Margaret was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Raymond (now deceased 1908 - 1998), of Manning; by her son, Roger Ohde and
his wife, Bernita, of Bondurant, Iowa; by three grandchildren: Michael Ohde and his wife,
Julie, of Des Moines; Karlyn and her husband, Tim Navara, of Lake Park, Iowa; and Kevin
Ohde, a student at the University of Iowa; by two brothers; and by one sister. |
