I love this website. I visit it often. My grandparents are George and Freida (Joachimsen) Joens from Manning and Barney and Ella (Stier) Neubaum also from Manning. My mom was Donna (Neubaum) and Merlin Joens. Brings back childhood memories of visiting grandparents.

Hello David. Thanks for the nice article on my aunt Arlene Musfeldt. She was a great lady, and the last of her generation of Musfeldts. Keep up the good work with your site, I enjoy checking in on Manning.

I dropped by to wish you and yours a very Merry and blessed Christmas. Someone was at my home this week and noticed the Baptismal and Confirmation certificates for my parents. The ones she looked directly at were Trinity Lutheran, Audubon, Ia. She still wanted to know if my parents immigrated from Germany.

My grandfather ( John D.Coleman ) was a policeman in Manning in the 50's & 60's from what I remember upon my visits while on vacation with my parents & brother. Are you able to tell me what became of my grandpa after the death of his wife and if he stayed in Manning? Recently through a website called "Checkmate" I traced a John D. Coleman of 106 yrs old to be living in a town here in Fl.I did not persue to call this person to see if he haplpened to be this same John D. Coleman. This has definitely sparked my curiosity after finding my grandmother's obituary write-up of a Manning funeral home. I thank you very much for any of your assistance in this matter.

David, Doug told me you posted a wonderful 'story' about Lyle on you webpage and indeed you did. He was truly an outstanding man and leader in the Manning community. God got someone very special on August 23rd, 2015.
Thanks for all your hard work on keeping the veterans' memories alive.

My mother was Bernice Koon who worked as a waitress for Bonita Hagedorn (owner) of the Virginia Café for a good many years. At one time I saw a picture of my mom with several other employees of the Virginia café and taken in the restaurant. I would love someone to find that picture and send me a copy. I would gladly pay for a search fee. I don't know if it was in one of the history books or where I saw it but it showed how beautiful my mom was and an excellent waitress either late 40's or early 50's. My brothers were Tom and Gary Koon. I graduated I 1955.

Thank you for posting the book "The History of Manning." My ancestor was Herbert Bennett, father of Fred and Clinton Bennett, and brother of A. T. Bennett. They are listed in the book many times. I descend from Herbert's daughter Minerva. Even though she is not mentioned, it is very interesting to learn about the family.

I was researching my mother's hometown and what a nice surprise to find your website. I am planning a visit in June 2015 with my uncle, Leroy Kienast, and his daughter, my cousin, Penny. I have always wanted to visit Manning and hoped to do this with my mother, Joyce (Strathman), but mom passed away 5 years ago. i am looking forward to my visit and seeing where my Grandparents, Clara (Petersen) and Lee Strathman, raised their family and farmed. Thank you for what you do, documenting the history of Manning and the people who do and have lived there. See you in June.
