Love your website Dave. I was browsing today and saw a message from Jeff Moore. Boy, did that bring back some fond memories. I remember you Jeff and have often wondered what ever became of you. Yes, it has been since 6th grade (1964). It made my day to see your e-mail. I am married to Tom Hargens. He was in our class too. Your dad was the minister of his church. If you happen to see this please send me a line sometime and we can catch up some.

In fact, I must thank you for the information on Sirococcus shoot blight which appears to be the problem with a spruce tree in our back yard (part of an urban 6800 sq ft lot). I could not find any other info on this problem...yet. I've added bark mulch and fertilized to help the tree's health. Also sprayed with a soapy fertilizer solution. Maybe there's a suitable fungicide on the market...

Her father(Fred Boock) and Walter's father were brothers, and her mother was Margaretha Peters, sister to Anna and Elsa. I really enjoyed the picture of the Manning hotel, where my grandmother worked when she first arrived in Manning. Mom was a Manning girl, and told great stories about her life there! Hi Dave, Thank you for sending the beautiful tribute to our dad, Walter Boock, to us. Elsa, Peggy, David and I all enjoyed reading the paper. We were also saddened to read about Bart's tragic death. What an ironic juxtaposition of the obituaries - 17 years for one and 87 years for another. We miss Dad a lot. He lived with my husband Mike and me for 4 years. He did all of our grocery shopping on his red scooter and felt so proud to contribute to our family in this way. It's funny to be in a grocery store - I haven't done this for months! Thanks again. Dear friends in Manning. A short note from a veteran of Manning High 1964. It was fun to see my picture on your web-site. It made me remember what a nice experience it was for me to spend a year in Manning now 40 years ago. It certainly made a great impact on my life and gave me friends that I still keep in contact with. Just to tell you a little about where I am in life: I am still married to my wife Eirin (married in 1971) and we have a son (30) and a daughter (27). I am now a professor in biotechnology and Head of the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Bergen. I am still enjoying sports and have spent a lot of time working as a volunteer for a local basketball club. This has been a lot of fun. Bergen is a town located on the west coast of Norway and has a population of about 250K. It is a good place to live, very little crime and very close to both the mountains and the ocean. We enjoy skiing, a little bit of mountain biking and fishing when we are not working. Work has over the years taken me many times to the States but recently, time and work in other European contries have not allowed me to visit the US much. I hope the people of Manning is doing well and that the town still is hosting foreign exchange students who can enjoy your kind hospitality. Best wishes from Johan (64)

Hi to all in Manning! I attended grade school there in the early 60s. We moved away at the beginning of 1965 in the middle of my 6th grade year and I've hardly ever been back since. I have a lot of great memories of playing along the Nishnabotna River and the railroad tracks with Craig Pfannkuch. Anybody know what happened to Dick Hornberger? It's hard to even remember names of kids in my class. Greg Blum. Ricky Venteicher, Janet Arp, Debbie and Denise Genzen, Twila ..., Skip Schrum, Mary Ann and Mary Agnes Nepple, Francine Kruse, Dean Lorenzen. I knew Barb Heitoff a little at Iowa State when when we were both there. Anybody know what any of those folks are doing these days? I pastor a small church here in the suburbs of Detroit and my wife and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary next week. My dad lives in Ames these days. And when I was a kid we called it Children's Day. ;^) Now it's Kinderfest, I see. My own kids always marveled at that holiday.

I'm trying to find information regarding English sparrows. A pair has taken over one of my bluebird houses. Tonight we placed a plastic bag over the house and trapped and "euthanized" the little bugger. We're leaving the sack over the nest. So, my question is, is there another bird in there? I suppose I'll find out tomorrow. At any rate Martin, If you could give me a clue about the noctural habits of the pests, I would be most appreciative. Let's see, Victorville, Artichoke capital of the world...oh how I love fresh artichokes! Thank you and God bless. Trish Lewis

Found your web site through an article in the Observer paper, great web site, but was in total dismay that there was no Gottsch names on the Veterans Memorial. The local area (Westside) had several Gottsch's that served in the military, Arlo, Dale, Dean, Wilbur and Marvin. I will complete and submit the applications, for proper service recoginition. Also there is a picture of a threshing crew on the Bill Gottsch farm. My Grandfather was William Gottsch from Westside but I don't recognize him in the picture. Was there another William Gottsch from the local area that I was not aware of or is it the same person. Can you provide my with some additional information if you can. Thanks
