Corrections for Manning History Book

DEDICATION: The brick paving on Main Street was completed in 1915, and the concrete paving on other streets was completed in 1923.

PAGE 39: 1980 - Brad Joens, not his brother Brian, went to the state track meet.

PAGE 41: 1921 Graduates - Add Vincent Lyden. 1931 Graduates - Add Max Curtis. 1932 Graduates - Add Harry Musfeldt.

PAGE 52: The rural school picture was taken in 1934. Teacher Margaret Ohde had one year of college at that time.

PAGE 75: John Hoffmann was a 1932 graduate of the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where he participated in the ROTC program.

PAGE 83: The picture was taken about 1908 at the dance hall in Aspinwall. Louis Schroeder, seated second from the right, was the owner of the tavern which was at the front of the hall. A bartender was Fred Koester, standing at the center (wearing wrist protectors). In front of Koester is Emil Klindt; Frank Wegner is at Klindt's left and Henry Klindt is at the far right.

PAGE 97: Francis Brennan, a member of the Manning Orphans, is pictured at the far right.

PAGE 101: Manning's first brass band, organized by Ferdinand Blocker (front center), is shown with, back row, John Wunderlich and Herman Hoffman; third row, Albert Fonken, Chris Tank, Fred Schrum and Fred Wendle; second row, Joe Arp and John Hoffmann; first row, Charlie Schmidt and Hannes Schmidt. The story should include Herman Hoffmann's name, not Henry Hoffmann.

PAGE 153: Manning Anhydrous was incorporated in the fall of 1974.

PAGE 162: George Dethlefs, Sr., is shown at the Crystal Theater, not his son Fred.

PAGE 186: The picture of Main Street is looking to the south from the Third Street intersection.

PAGE 250: The Barsby farm 1 1/4 miles south of Manning is a Century Farm as of 1968. Bob, son of Robert and Joyce Barsby, is the fifth generation of the family on the farm.

PAGE 253: The farm pictured is not the Frank Knueven farm.

PAGE 269: The Herman Borkowski family should be listed under the Herman Sander name.

PAGE 277: In the Claussen picture, the name Magdalene listed between Herman and Herbert should be W. Margaretha.

PAGE 283: Pictured are, back, Gene and Glenn Ehrichs; front Shirley Schramm, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Ehrichs, and Dorothy Kusel.

PAGE 305: Pictured is the Clarence Grundmeier family.

PAGE 344: The picture with the Frank A. Knueven story is of Mr. & Mrs. John Stewart, grandparents of Claudia Knueven.

PAGE 388: Jurgen (George) Ohde family. Emma Mary married John Schelldorf and they had nine children. Mary Emma married Hans Wilken and they had one daughter.

PAGE 413: William Rowedder family includes six sons and six daughters. Insert the following: Lena married Harry Wiese; children are Merle, Dewey, Victor, Gertrude and Melvin. Amelia married Herman Schroeder; children are Lewis, Merlin, Kenneth and Norman. Hilda married Fred Hansen; children are Alvin, Melvin, Fred, Billie (deceased), and Bob. John married Ella Mordhorst; children are Gilbert, Berdine, Leonard (deceased), LeRoy, Virgil and Joan.

PAGE 417: George Schelldorf family. Louis Schelldorf married Alma Pfoltner, and the couple had two children, Geraldine and Charles. Herbert married Luella Knapp, and they had one son, Wayne.

PAGE 421: The picture includes Amanda Frahm (not Kuhn) and Elmer Schroeder (not Emil).

PAGE 424: John Schumann family: Nicholas Schumann died in 1893. The family included 12 children; the name of Charles Schumann was omitted.

PAGE 439: Tank family. Robert and Hermanette Tank have four children. Omitted was Karen (Mrs. Dale "Ernie" Reinke). She works for Dr. P.L. Myer, and Dale works for Puck Implement Co. They live at 1284 Washington Court, Manning.

FRONT COVER: Although the committee attempted to identify all pictures in the history book, we forgot to identify the one on the front cover. This picture is of the original Milwaukee Depot, which was located south of the City Park. The tracks were rerouted in 1913-14 and the depot then moved.
