Funeral services for Louis G. Schwiesow were held Friday, February 24, 1989 at 10:30
a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. Pastor Glenn Wiechman officiated the service
with Marian Joens as and Marlene Jahn as vocalist.
Interment was in Nishnabotna Cemetery in Manilla. Casketbearers and military honor were by Offut Air Force Base Honor Guard. Honorary casketbearers were Glen Macumber, Bob Georgius, Norman Ertz, Whitey Grage, Tom Rutherford, Bernie Higgins and Ron Christensen. Louis, son of Walter and Caroline "Lena" Vinke Schwiesow, was born June 23, 1930 at Manning, Iowa. He attended Manning schools and was graduated from Manning High School. Immediately following graduation, Louie joined the United States Navy, retiring in 1968. During his naval career he served during two wars, Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon.
December 1, 1949 Louie was united in marriage with Barbara L. Peterson at Yuma,
Arizona. Three children, Stanley, Rebecca, and Louis, Jr. were born to this union.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara on September 1987, also by his parents,
by a sister, Ruth Johnson, and by a sister, Fern, in infancy. Louie was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Manning, the American Legion in Manilla, and of the Omaha Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. |
