George Schade Of Aspinwall Dies Wednesday
Father Being Buried in Manilla Cemetery This Afternoon

Death claimed George Schade of Aspinwall only three days after his father, Henry Schade, of Aspinwall, had passed away. George Schade died in the Wyatt Hospital at Manning at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 1939, after a lengthy illness of cancer. He had been in failing health since last spring and had been under treatment at the Jennie Edmondson Hospital, Council Bluffs, for two weeks before being brought to the Wyatt Hospital September 3.

Mr. Schade, a World War I Veteran, was fifty years old. Born at Manilla May 20, 1889, he had spent virtually all of his life in the Manilla and Aspinwall communities. At the time of his death, he was a mechanic in Ehrichs' Garage at Aspinwall.

He was twice married, his first wife, who was Anna Ehrichs of Aspinwall, having died in September 1920. To them was born one daughter, Ellen, May 5, 1926.

He was married to Alma Bahls in Des Moines.

Surviving with his wife and daughter, Ellen, above named, are three brothers, Harry Schade, Manning; Henry Schade, Des Moines; and Herbert Schade, Rock Island, Illinois, and one sister, Mrs. Kuhl, of Manning.

His father, Henry Schade, passed away at Iowa City Monday morning, October 2, after a brief illness. His mother, Sophia (Grage) Schade, died about twenty-two years ago. Funeral services for his father were held at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning this afternoon, with burial in the Manilla Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements for Mr. Schade have not been completed, but the rites will probably be held at Manilla Saturday. There will be a military funeral.

GEORGE D. SCHADE FAMILY
George was born at Manilla in 1889, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schade. His early childhood was spent in Manilla. He then came to Aspinwall where he lived for the rest of his life, except for the time he served in World War I in France.

After the war he went to work at the Ehrichs Garage in Aspinwall. He was Mayor of the town for a number of years, holding that office at the time of his death in 1939.
George was married to Anna Ehrichs, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs: John Ehrichs, in 1919. They lived in the old John Ehrichs home in Aspinwall, now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. George Mackey. George and Anna had one child, Ellen, born in 1920. Anna died in childbirth.

As an infant Ellen went to live with her grandparents. When they passed away she lived with her aunt and uncle, Hugo and Margaret Ehrichs Brus.
In 1926 George married Alma Bahls and Ellen then came to Aspinwall to live with her dad and step-mother. She was six years old at that time and "spent 14 wonderful years in the little town."

Ellen left Aspinwall in 1940 to attend cosmetology school in Davenport. After graduation she went to work in Logan, where she met Ralph Trout. They were married in 1945. They have three children and are both now retired.
Michael is in Cedar Rapids, where he works for Century Engineering; he has two children by a former marriage and has remarried. Pam and her husband have two adopted children and live in Beatrice, Nebraska, where Dave works for Mid-America Pipe Line Corp.
Steve and his wife have three daughters and live in Centerville, where Steve is employed at Union Carbide.
