Last Rites Held For William Walter
Mishap Victim

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Mr. William Walter of near Manilla.

Mr. Walter met a very unexpected and untimely death.

On Monday, December 19, 1938, he suffered severe facial lacerations when knocked down and stepped on by a horse, injuries which proved fatal. He was rushed to the St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, where he passed away on Wednesday evening, December 21 at the age of 65 years, 8 months, and 14 days.

William Frederick Walter was born on April 7, 1873, in Tielen, Schleswig Holstein, Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Germany. In 1889, at the age of 18 years, he came to America and settled at Minden. In 1894, he came to Manning where he was employed on various farms. On September 27, 1898, he was married to Miss Emilie Kai and they moved to a farm northwest of Manning. The couple has farmed ever since their marriage.

Thirteen children were born to this union, two children having died in infancy and one at the age of 13 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers who died in Germany. Those surviving besides his wife are William Walter of Sac City; Alfred, Louis Ivan, and Arlene at home; Anna, Mrs. August Weinbrandt; Cecil, Mrs. Gordon Sievertsen, both of Manilla; Mamie, Mrs. Alva Steiner of Westside; Malinda Mrs. Henry Vinke, and Emma, Mrs. Julius Vinke of Manning. Eleven grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held on December 24 at the Lutheran Church with Rev. John M. Ansorge officiating. Interment was made in the Iowa Township Cemetery.

Six nephews acted as pallbearers: Harold Pfoltner, Henry Lamaack, Harry Lamaack, Pete Jorgensen, Henry Wenzel, and Henry Thompson.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schroeder of Lewis, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dublinski of Odebolt.
