A prayer service for William P. Stein was held August 3, 1997, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Memorial Mass was offered on August 4 at 9:00 a.m. Interment arrangements were by Been-Belford of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
William "Bill" P. Stein, 59, of Underwood, Iowa, died on July 31, 1997, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, after a seven month illness. Bill was born on August 20, 1937, in Manning, Iowa, to Joseph and Zita (Hinners) Stein. He attended and graduated from Manning High School after which he attended a commercial extension certification course in Omaha, Nebraska.
Bill worked for Union Pacific from 1955 to 1975; he was self-employed as a painter and general contractor from 1975 to the present. For the past 10 years, he worked exclusively for the Masonic Manor in Omaha.
Bill was an avid golfer, and in August of 1991, he made a hole-in-one on the 14th hole on the Red Oak Country Club. For the last four years, he owned and operated a golf cart business.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; son Michael and his wife Joy, Council Bluffs; son Thomas, Underwood; and daughter Joan, Underwood; and Karen's two daughters, Cristy Schaefer, Council Bluffs and Carla Schaefer, Omaha; four brothers, Robert, Omaha; Jon, Toronto, Ontario; Lynn, Manning, and Lee, Carroll, Iowa.
