Manning Monitor

The news of the death of W.Z. Scott reached Manning Tuesday. Mr. Scott resided on a large farm two miles south of Templeton for some 20 years until last spring when be purchased a farm near Estelline, S.D. and moved with his family to that place. His death was caused by internal hemorrhage which resulted from lifting some heavy articles and the sad news comes as a shock to his many friends and their sympathy is extended to the family in their loss. He was a man of sterling worth and was respected and held in high esteem by all who came within the circle of his acquaintance.

In Memorium
The great change that awaits mankind has come to one of our order. William Z. Scott was a worthy and beloved brother Odd Fellow of Utophia Lodge, No. 161. His labors for the upbuilding of the order and his lodge in particular, so that his agreeable companionship to us whether in the lodge room or mingling with mankind, will be sorely missed, and certainly hard to duplicate. He was a man of unsullied character, honest, truthful, temperate, and these principles he taught his fellow man. Prudence in the walks of life was his aim. Morality in every sense he practiced and preached and as model being of God's creation we idolized him for it. A greater affliction than the taking away of such a father, husband, friend could not have entered the portals of a home, a lodge or the world at large.

We pray that his merits on earth will be richly rewarded in heaven where parting will be no more, and his voice ever heard mingling with angelic song above. May we walk in his footsteps and retain his memory as our guide. Brother Scott died in Estelline, South Dakota, December 26, 1902, where his body was laid quietly away till time shall be no more.
