William J. Schroeder, 74, of Manila, died after a short illness early Sunday, March 25, 1973, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Manilla, of which he was a member. The Rev. Ronald E. Meyers will officiate; burial will be in the Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers will be LeRoy Dammann, Richard Dammann, Robert Schilling, Roy Schilling, Wallace Schroeder, and Larry Thomssen. Friends may call at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla after 2 p.m. Monday.

Mr. Schroeder was a son of Louis and Mary (Lemster) Schroeder. He was born October 24, 1898, in Crawford County and attended school at Aspinwall. On March 23, 1921, he was married at Denison to Rosie Dammann, and they lived at Aspinwall for 30 years. They moved to Manilla in 1951.

Mr. Schroeder began work for the Milwaukee Railroad in 1917. He was section foreman at Aspinwall from 1934 until 1951, and at Manilla until retiring in 1963.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, LaVerne of Bloomington, Minnesota, and Donald of Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Shirley) Swanson of Manilla; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother and three sisters, Harry Schroeder, Mrs. Amanda Claussen, Mrs. Emma Schilling and Mrs. Henry (Florence) Thomssen, all of Aspinwall. Another sister, Maggie, preceded him in death.
