W.B. Parrott
Prominent Resident Is Laid To Rest
Funeral services for W.B. Parrott, a prominent resident of this vicinity and a leading pioneer business man in this community for many years, were held Friday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home with Rev. E.E. Zimmerman, pastor of the Vail Presbyterian Church, in charge.
William Benjamin Parrott was born in Attica, Indiana, August 12, 1872, the only child of Samuel and Lydia Parrott. At the age of four he moved with his parents to Richland, Iowa where he spent his childhood. When he was seventeen his mother passed away and the home was broken up.
He came to Manning in 1893 and started working for the Jarvis Gafford Produce Company.
After two years he took over the business, which he managed for thirty-two years. In 1917 Henry Brandhorst entered the business as a partner. It was carried on under this management until 1924 when he sold his interest and moved to a farm south of Manning, where he lived until has death on March 13, 1940.
In 1894 he was united in marriage to Angeline Kenyan. To this union one daughter was born. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Surridge, and one grandchild, Patricia Surridge; an aged aunt, Mrs. John Rockefellow, and two cousins, Mrs. Clyde Parker and Laurel Rockefellow all of Des Moines.
Mr. Parrott represented Carroll County in the 39th General Assembly.
The deceased took an active part in community affairs for a number of years and was one of the town's most progressive business men. As a result he enjoyed a great circle of friends who now join with the family in their hour of sorrow.
Interment was in the Manning cemetery. Pallbearers were John Lewis, Joe Rushenberg, Herman Gotch, Frank Kempf, E.D. Sutherland, and E.E. Breckenridge.
