William Opperman Dies at Manning
William Opperman, 83, who lived on the same farm near Manning the last 40 years, died at his home at 12:30 a.m. today, February 2, 1951. He had been in poor health for two years and bedfast for some time.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ohde Funeral home, The Rev. Brown Garlock, minister of the Methodist Church, will officiate.

Six grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Mr. Opperman, born July 28, 1867, at Kiel, Germany, son of John and Magdalina (Hansen) Oppermann, had lived in the Manning community most of his life, although he had resided in Crawford County before coming to Carroll County.

He and his wife, who was Magdalena "Maggie" Karsten before her marriage, had celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Surviving with his wife are four children: Emil Opperman and Mrs. Mamie Schmidt, Manning; Mrs. Ferd (Lena) Ranniger, Carroll; and Rudolph, at home.

He also leaves nine grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Johan (Hattie) Schroeder, and one brother, Herman Opperman, Manning.

Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death: Henry and John Opperman, and Mrs. Anna Gebhardt and Mrs. Tracy Klindt.
