WILLIAM F. MEGGERS
William F. Meggers, 82, a retired farmer, died Monday, April 30, 1984, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning with Pastor Paul Krumm, officiating. Fern Jensen will be organist and a quartet composed of Larry Genzen, Ken Puck, Paula Krumm, and Margaret Backhaus, will sing. Burial, under the direction of the Ohde Funeral Home of Manning, will be in the Manning Cemetery. Serving as casket-bearers will be Delton Gruhn, Robert Meeves, Daryle Rowedder, Gary Gruhn, Glen Struve, and Art Gruhn.

Mr. Meggers is survived by his wife, Elvira, Westside; three sons: William, Edward, and Duane Meggers and his wife Luetta, all of Westside; a daughter, Mrs. Wilbert (Dorothea) Ehlers, Arcadia; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and a sister, Anna Fries, Ida Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers in infancy, a brother, Eddie; two sisters: Mrs. H.K. (Wilhelmina) Gruhn and Mrs. Herb (Edna) Rowedder, and a grandchild.

Mr. Meggers was born July 12, 1901, in Iowa Township, Crawford County, a son of Emil and Sophia (NuIle) Meggers. He was baptized as Willie Frenz Dietrich Meggers on August 4, 1901, by Pastor C.A. Krog at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith April 16, 1916, by the Pastor John M. Ansorge at Zion Lutheran Church.

On October 3, 1923, he was married to Elvira Gruhn by Pastor Ansorge of Zion Lutheran church. They farmed in the Manning and Westside areas, moving into Westside in 1948. There he worked as custodian for the Westside School and was employed by Ralph's Feed and Farm Supply.

The Meggers celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1983. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Manning and was active in the Westside Senior Citizens Club.
