He had been ill about four years with a heart ailment, although death came suddenly.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the McFadden Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Neville of Exira officiating.
Burial will be in Arlington Heights Cemetery, Audubon, Iowa.
W.J. Markley, son of John and Edna Lucy (Seward) Markley, was born September 9, 1872, at Fayette, Iowa, and moved to Audubon with the family at the age of 8.
On September 8, 1894, he was married to Stella Garber at Audubon, and she died in 1925. Mr. Markley moved to Omaha in1926 where he lived until returning here two years ago to live with a daughter, Mrs. Darlene Hansen.
He was married to Mary Agnes (Petersen) Houck at Omaha on June 25, 1928. Educated in Cameron Center schools, he was a member of the Eagles lodge, FOE No. 38, at Omaha, and of the Security Benefit association of Omaha.
Mr. Markley was a carpenter all his life.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Agnes Markley; sons, Garland of Audubon, Meredith of Exira, and Lionel of Tacoma, Washington; daughters, Mrs. Darlene Hansen of Audubon and Mrs. Nellie Hansen of Des Moines; brother, Steve, Audubon; sister, Mrs. Albert Twining, Spooner, Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Three daughters and one son passed away earlier.
