Funeral services for William Frederick Schrum, 71, were held March 18, at 2 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. The Rev. Lester Moore, pastor of the Manning Methodist Church, officiated. Ray Pratt was soloist; and Bonita (Mrs. H. W.) Hagedorn, organist. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.
A son of, Frederick and Catherine Schumann Schrum, he was born May 8, 1891, in Washington Township, Carroll County. He spent his early years on the farm and attended rural schools. He was married to Ruby Faye Addison on January 21, 1914, at Manning. They lived on a farm, and in 1922 he began work at the Manning Rendering Plant. They moved into Manning in 1933 and he retired in 1956. In failing health the past winter, he entered Manning General Hospital three weeks ago and died the morning of March 16, 1963.
He was preceded in death by a son Warren in 1925, and a daughter, Marjorie Joy, in 1929; also his parents, and a brother, Nick.
He is survived by his wife, four sons: Arthur, Chula Vista, California; Burton, Norton, Kansas; Wayne, Iowa City; and Lyle, Des Moines; 16 grandchildren; one brother, John, Manning; and two sisters, Mrs. Otto (Hannah) Paysen, Green River, Wyoming; and Mrs. Glen (Elizabeth) McLaughlin, Audubon.
