DEATH OF WILHELM WIESE
Another of Crawford County's oldest and well known pioneers has come to the end of his trail after a long struggle to live. Death ended this struggle in its victory over the frail body after midnight, Thursday January 17, 1936, when Wilhelm Wiese passed away. He was taken to the Wyatt Hospital last August but was never able to leave it until his soul left his old and worn body at nearly 90 years of age.

Three years ago he was honored by the Manning Monitor which published a long account of his long and industrious life. The story of his pilgrimage is interesting, his life was filled with many commendable things which his strong body and active mind enabled him to do. His accomplishments principally along agricultural lines. In this he made a success. He came to the United States without money and by planning and unflinching work he was able to accumulate land and money which kept him comfortable in his old age.

Wilhelm Wiese was born in Dransau, Ald, Gut Neuhaus, Holstein, Germany, May 2, 1846, where he attended school and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Giekau by Pastor Schwartz in 1862. In 1867 he left Germany and came to Quebec, Canada, landing there in April.

He came to Davenport, Iowa, that same year where he remained one year. After that he came to Clinton County where he worked on a farm for three years. He spent a few months of that year, 1871, in Sioux City and South Dakota, returning that same year to Clinton. In 1872 he came to Crawford County where he lived on his farm until 1912 when he moved to Manning where he lived the rest of his life. His wife preceded him in death on March 30, 1924, since which time Miss Alvina has been his faithful companion.

In 1872 he was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Erb of Arcadia, to which union eleven children were born, of whom six are living, three sons and three daughters, namely, Detlef of Vail, John and William of Manning. The daughters are Anna, Mrs. Claus E. Kruetzfeldt, Haines, North Dakota, Alvina at home and Sara, Mrs. Hannes Hell of Manning. There are 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is the last of his brothers and sisters. He was 89 years, 8 months and 15 days old.

Funeral services were held in the Ohde Funeral Home at Manning Sunday afternoon, at two o'clock by Rev. Emery E. Zimmerman of Vail, who officiated at his wife's funeral in 1924. Burial was in the family lot in the Hayes Township Cemetery.
