Funeral services for Wilbur D. Sweesy, 1017 Oakland Drive, who died at a local hospital Thursday afternoon, August 17, 1933, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Presbyterian Church, 820 Washington avenue northeast. The services will be conducted by the Masonic order at the church and at the grave. Mr. Sweesy belonged to the lodge for the past 40 years, joining at Manning, Iowa.
Members of the Elks lodge, of which he was also a member, will usher. The Rev. W.B. Milne, Clear Lake, will give the sermon and Remley Glass will give the Masonic ritual at both the church and grave.
Mr. Sweesy was born at Hooks Point, in Hamilton County, Iowa, October 7, 1869. The place of his birth is now known as Lanesboro. From this point the family moved to Scotch Grove, and lived there on a land grant from President Polk. Mr. Sweesy's ancestors were Scotch, both his father and mother being born in Scotland.
In 1893, Mr. Sweesy was married to Miss Lenore Stout at Roseville, Illinois, and soon after that they settled at Des Moines. For the past 14 years Mr. Sweesy has resided in Mason City. He has worked nearly all of this time for the Jacob E. Decker Packing Company.
Mr. Sweesy's wife preceded him in death by three years (1875 - April 14, 1930). She is buried with Wilbur in
Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
