Wesley Ohde

Wesley Ohde, 93, of Carroll, died Saturday, December 20, 2008, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Mass of the Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. Father Timothy Schott will officiate.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, where there will be a Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m. by the St. Lawrence Parish.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Carroll.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for the St. Lawrence Parish.

Lectors will be Betty Roder and Aaron Reding. Petitions will be read by Kathy Bergren, Kelly Prier, John Roder, James Reding, Anna Reding and Maggie Ahrens. Gift bearers will be Philip Roder, Sarah Reding, John Reding, Shannon Tillinghast and Kathryn Reding. Vocalists will be Mary Reding, Ellen Falk and Anna Reding. Eucharistic Ministers will be Betty Roder, Paul Roder and Mary Bellinghausen.

Casketbearers will be Philip Roder, Jason Ahrens, Joshua Ohde, Mike Reding, Casey Zandt and Jessica Tillinghast.


A son of George and Anna (Georgius) Ohde, he was born July 17, 1915, at Manning. He spent his childhood on a farm northwest of Manning and attended Manning area schools.

On November 26, 1946, he married Delores Bellinghausen at St. Francis Church in Maple River with Father Lawrence Schoeppner officiating. The couple made their home in Carroll.

Mr. Ohde was a long-time parts manager for Hills Motors, Peters Motors and Lou Walsh Motors in Carroll until his retirement in 1980.

He also played piano for many years with three dance bands: The Harmony Boys, The Ray Ohde Band and The Music Men Band.

He was a member of the St. Lawrence Parish and he enjoyed music, golf and traveling.

Survivors include six children: Betty Roder and her husband Paul of Raytown, Missouri, Linda Ahrens and her husband Larry of Dallas, Texas, Larry Ohde and his wife Edie of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Barb Reding and her husband Mark of Howardstown, Kentucky, Robert Ohde of Tatum, Texas and Cheryl Toohey of Omaha, Nebraska; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Scott Zandt of Southlake, Texas; a brother, Lester Ohde of Carroll; a sister, Jean Pfoltner of Manning; and a sister-in-law, Mabel Ohde of Spokane, Wash.

Mr. Ohde was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores Ohde; a daughter, Sue Zandt; a sister, Viola Martens; and four brothers: Oscar Ohde, Oliver Ohde, Melvin Ohde and Raymond Ohde.
