DOUGLAS LYNN WEEMS

Douglas Lynn, son of Eldis "Bud" and Norma Nissen Weems, was born June 4, 1959 in Manning, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Doug attended Manning Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1977.

Doug did carpentry and other construction work following graduation. He was employed by Rasmussen Lumber Company of Manning for the past ten years.

Since last August Doug has not been able to work because of failing health due to cancer. He died early Tuesday morning, April 17, 1990 at Mercy Medical. Center in Des Moines, at the age of 30 years, 10 months, and 13 days.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alfred and Jessie Nissen and by his paternal grandfather, Earl Weems. Survivors include his parents, Bud and Norma Weems, of Manning; the following brothers and sisters:

Darrell Weems and his wife, Della, of Adel; Myra and her husband, Jim Luetje, of Westside; Nancy and her husband, Ron Drake, of Omaha, NE; Connie and her husband, J. Gordon Scott, of Marietta, Georgia; and Curtis Weems, of Manning; his grandmother, Mabel Weems, of Manning; nieces and nephews: Jason, Heather, Joshua, Jed, Jafe, and Jared Weems, Sheri and Robby Luetje, and Dylan and Melanie Drake; aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Doug was an avid bowler and a bowling team member. He served as secretary of the Manning Bowling Association. During winter months Doug also enjoyed snow-mobiling. He was especially proud of his skill as a carpenter and was truly devoted to his younger brother Curtis.
