Wayne A. Witt, age 89, of Carroll passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, January 25, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Friends may call after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Jan Hoff. Casket bearers will be Ken Witt, Michael Loehr, Melvin Weatherwax, Bill Hurd, Jay Woodhouse, and Bob Woodhouse. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
Born on February 18, 1923, at Manning, Iowa, he was the son of Arnold and Florence (Ehlers) Witt. He grew up in Manning and his family moved to Carroll when he was in high school. Wayne graduated in 1941 from Carroll High School where he was co-captain of the basketball team and also ran on the track team. He was married to Minnie Louise Pahnke on November 9, 1951, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. He worked for Wilson Meat Packing Company out of Omaha for many years and then went to work for Fareway Grocery Store in Carroll until he retired. Following his retirement he worked at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home for several years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. Wayne and Minnie did a great deal of traveling and he enjoyed going for walks and visiting with his family and friends.
Wayne is survived by a daughter Sheila Hurd and her husband Bill of Grand Junction, Colorado; three sons: Tom Witt and Susan Wakayama of Honolulu, Hawaii, Ken Witt and his wife Mildred of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Eric Witt and his wife Robin of Kauai, Hawaii; four grandchildren: Alex and Michael Hurd of Denver, Colorado, and Martine and Camille Witt of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; a sister Phyllis Vanderloo of Des Moines, Iowa; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Minnie in 2001.
