Funeral Service for Wayne Schroeder was held on Tuesday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. Reverend Marshall Brown of First Presbyterian Church in Manning officiated with Georgia Lohrmann as vocalist and JoAnn Karsten as organist. Casketbearers were Andrew Stangl, Aaron Stangl, Quinten Anderson, Berton Whited, Lyle Podey and Roger Podey. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery in Manning, Iowa.

Wayne Edwin, son of Herbert and Leona (Grimm) Schroeder, was born May 31, 1928 at Manning. He grew up on a farm west of Manning and attended grade school at Aspinwall and Westside. He graduated from Manning High School in 1948 and began working at the Manning Creamery Company and also did corn shelling work.

On December 28, 1948, Wayne was united in marriage to Lila Mohr at the First Presbyterian Church manse in Manning. Three daughters were born to this union. Wayne and Lila made their home in Manning. The corn shelling work that Wayne did evolved into a trucking business in which he was active in for 55 years. In 1992 he semi-retired.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he had been baptized and confirmed. He was an 18-year member of the Manning Fire Department and at one point served as assistant chief and president. He was also a life-time member and former president of the Hayes Township Schuetzen Verein (Five Mile House). He enjoyed dancing, listening to polka music, monthly card club parties, camping, going on family outings and spending time with his grand-children.

On Wednesday, April 6, 2005, Wayne entered Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa, and died there on Saturday, April 9, 2005, following a period of declining health. He was 76 years, 10 months and 9 days of age.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Frederick Podey,

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lila Schroeder of Manning; daughters: Linda and husband Gary Anderson of Ottumwa, Iowa; Susan and husband Larry Stangl of Manning; and Debra and husband Daniel Weis of Peru, Illinois; nine grandchildren: Quinten Anderson and wife, Nichole; Carleigh Anderson; Kantryn and husband Justin Krueger; Aubrey Anderson; Monica and husband Jason Danner, Andrew Stangl and wife, Carissa; Kristie and husband Sam Lockhart; Aaron Stangl and his fiance, Abbey Ranniger; and Sarah Weis; two great-granddaughters: Madyln Danner and Lily Stangl; two sisters: Marilyn and husband Dale Jons of Westside, Iowa and Cleone Podey of Vail, Iowa; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.
