Funeral services for Walter David Miller were held Monday, April 4, 1983, 2:00 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Reverend Dennis Johnson of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning officiating. Dorothy Kusel was organist and Judy Joens was vocalist. Interment was in Manning Cemetery with Charles Escher, Glenn Steinke, Donald Pfannkuch, Gene McCollum, Robert Barsby, and Clarence Bowers as casketbearers. The Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Walter, son of John and Jennie (Zeek) Miller, was born January 17, 1902, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He attended grade school in Pennsylvania. As a young man, Walter, looking for work, bought a train ticket as far as Carroll, Iowa. He eventually found work in Westside. He was united in marriage with Emma Pruter on October 4, 1923. Walt farmed near the Five Mile House for five years and then settled west of Manning in 1928, where he farmed until 1964. At that time he moved to Manning where he has made his home until about two and a half years ago when he moved to the Manning Plaza. He died there Thursday, March 31, 1983, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 14 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by a brother, Norman; and by two sisters, Grace Hudson, and Mary Sixes.

He is survived by his wife, Emma, of this community; by his son, John F. Miller and his wife, Mary Ann of Manning; by two grandchildren, David and Jane; by two sisters, Clara Powers of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Florence Baker of Clarksburg, West Virginia.

Walter was a member of the Presbyterian Church, serving his congregation as Trustee and Elder.
