Virginia Steneker

MASON CITY — Virginia Steneker, 88, of 824 Second St. S. E. died Monday (Nov. 19, 2001) at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Willowbrook Drive S. W. with the Rev. Terry Hamilton-Poore officiating. Private family committal services will be held at a later date at the Evangelical Cemetery in Donnellson, Iowa.
There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Steneker Family Fund at North Iowa Area Community College.

Virginia Steneker was born May 9, 1913, in Burlington, the daughter of Charles A. and Mary F (Brugge) Streed. She graduated from Fairfield High School, received her normal training then taught school in rural Iowa for several years.

She married C.W. "Bill" Steneker on May 30, 1939, in Fairfield.

The Steneker's lived in Manning and Bill coached the basketball team that won the state championship in 1948. They moved to Mason City in 1951. She was an active volunteer for the schools.
For several years she tutored first through third-graders in reading at Garfield School.
She was involved in the Jefferson Elementary School PTA and a member of PEO Chapter IY, Sorosis Guided Study Club and the First Presbyterian Church.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Steneker McRoberts, of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren, Vickie, William, Christine, Cherie and Amanda; three great-grandchildren, Lauren, Brandon and Billy.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Shelly; husband, Bill; three brothers, and two sisters.
