Viola, daughter of Henry and Anna (Hansen) Stuhr, was born September 7, 1912, near Botna, Iowa. She attended country schools near her home. On June 15, 1935, she was united in marriage with Henry Otto at Shenandoah, Iowa, by Reverend Pearson in a KMA group wedding ceremony. They farmed near Botna for 18 years before moving to Manning where they made their home on Sue Street. Tootie was a homemaker throughout her life. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Tootie enjoyed being outdoors and caring for her flowers. She also loved small cats and dogs, as well as visiting with friends and relatives. Her husband, Heinie, died in 1987. She remained in their home until September of 1990 when she moved to Alta to be near her son.
Tootie died in the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake, Iowa Sunday March 31, 1991, at the age of 78 years, 6 months, and 24 days.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Logan and Grinn in infancy.
Tootie is survived by two children: Marlene Hargens, of Des Moines and Merlin Otto and his wife, Phyllis, of Alta; by four grandchildren: Bobbi Jo Jahn, of Pleasantville; Michael Otto and his wife, Lou Ann, of Madrid; Sonya Sue and her husband, Dave Sutter, of Pleasantville; and Marcy Otto, of Alta; by four great-grandchildren: Christian, Clark Shandi, and Maegan; by two step-great-grandchildren: Kimberly and Kurt; and by other relatives and friends.
