VERNON M. SHEARMAN

Family graveside services for Vernon Mathew Shearman were Friday, September 11, 1998, at the Manning Cemetery in Manning.

Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shearman, 92, of Lake View, died Tuesday, September 8, 1998, at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View.

Mr. Shearman was born to James Taylor and Emma Jane (Eddy) Shearman on January 10, 1906, in Kirkman, Shelby County, Iowa. He attended public school in Kirkman.

He married Melba Elberta Hamann on September 9, 1926, in Harlan. Mr. Shearman worked as a railroad agent and telegrapher for the Chicago & North Western Railroad in many communities in Iowa. His last station was in Wall Lake, where he retired in 1971. He and Melba continued to reside in Lake View.

Mr. Shearman was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Denison, Order of Railroad Telegraphers and AFL/CIO.

When their health began to fail, the Shearmans moved to the Black Hawk Life Care Center.

Mr. Shearman is survived by his wife, Melba, of Lake View; two daughters, Gwen Reinking and Gloria Peters, both of Lake View; one grandson; three great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ora, Herbert, and Glen Shearman; and two sisters, Elsie Croft, and Alice Morgan.
