Funeral services for Mrs. Harold (Verna) Vehrs were held Wednesday, May 25, 1983, at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiating. Nadine Heinicke was organist. Interment was in Manning Cemetery with Virgil Reid, Lyle Rowedder, Marvin Wiemann, Ivan Wurr, Ward Jensen, and Frank Handlos as casketbearers. Carl Schrum was an honorary casketbearer. Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, was in charge of arrangements.

Verna, daughter of Chris and Ida Wenzel Grage, was born October 12, 1917, north of Manilla, Iowa. She attended the country school near her home. She was united in marriage with Harold Vehrs January 19, 1937, at Denison, Iowa. After their marriage they farmed a short time near Manning and finally made their home in Manning. She worked for Priebes Hatchery and also at the Corner Cafe in Manning.

Verna had been in failing health for many years and passed away Sunday,, May 22, 1983, at the Manning General Hospital, at the age of 65 years, 7 months, and 10 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by three brothers, Edwin, Harold and Marvin Grage; and by a granddaughter, Rhonda Miskimins.

She is survived by her husband Harold of Manning and by the following children: Janice, Mrs. Gene Miskimins, Gray; Richard, and his wife Evelyn, Del Rio, Texas; Larry, Soldotna, Alaska; Lois, Mrs. Marvin Miskimins, Omaha; Rita, Mrs. John Winkelpleck, Grundy Center; Verna, Mrs. Eldon Stracke, Perry; and Cindy, Mrs. Mike Marshall, Lamarque, Texas; by 17 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Mrs. Elenora Macumber, Manilla; four brothers, Leo Grage, Irwin; Raymond Grage, Phoenix, Arizona; Floyd Grage, Manilla; Kenneth Grage, Manilla; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Verna was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Manning.


Verna Vehrs is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
