HERB ULLERICH
Herbert, son of Herman and Nancy (Ketelsen) Ullerich, was born April 29, 1904, near Gray, in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, IA.
Herb was baptized as an infant in 1904 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township and was confirmed there in 1919. Herb attended Bunker
Hill country school through the eighth grade and then started farming with his parents. They farmed together for many years and when his parents
needed to move off the farm, Herb made a home for them with him in town. When he moved into Manning, he developed 2.5 acres of land for residential
dwellings. He made sure that there was underground wiring in his development. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
On October 27, 1977, Herb was united in marriage with Wilma Shade Kurz at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Carroll. They made their home in Manning and Herb was devoted to his wife. They loved to travel, going to Hawaii four times. He also enjoyed fishing. He never really retired. He was proud of his feeder cattle and stayed in touch with farming and watched the markets daily. Wilma died in May of 1999.
Herb moved to the Manning Plaza nursing home in the spring of 2000. He died rather unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center, Manning, after becoming ill while at the barbershop. He was 96 years, 2 months, and 6 days of age.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and all of his brothers and sisters: Clara Ullerich, Walter Ullerich; Linn Ullerich; Victor Ullerich; Erwin Ullerich; Hugo Ullerich; and Rose Ullerich Kauth.
Herb is survived by three sisters-in-law: Selma Ullerich of Manning: Viola Reuwsaat of Denison; Donna Schade of Audubon; a brother-in-law Clarence David of Audubon; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
