On November 19, 1939, Tom was united in marriage with Dorothy Kienapfel in Manning at the First Presbyterian Church. They were blessed with three children, Bill, Carole, and Don. They farmed near Dow City until 1948 when they moved to a farm near Manilla. Tom farmed all his life until he retired in the late 70s. He moved to Denison in 1984.
Tom was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Manning. After his retirement he became an active member in the Denison Golden Kiwanis Club and was treasurer of the local AARP organization. He delivered meals to the local shut-ins for the Meals on Wheels in Denison. He was an Iowa Township Trustee for many years.
Tom became ill in February of 1994. He had surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. He was transferred to the Denison Care Center and was there until he entered the Crawford County Memorial Hospital on July 15, 1994, where his death occurred on Sunday, July 17, 1994. At the time of his death he was 81 years, 3 months, and 6 days of age.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Donald; his wife, Dorothy; and his brother Lyle.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his son, William and his wife, Connie, of Polk City; his daughter, Carole Evilsizer and her husband, Ron, of Denison; his brother Wayne Sharp and his wife, Fern, of Denison; his sister, Gladys Doidge, of Woodbine; two granddaughters, Rhonda Stidham, of Waterloo and Julie Saemisch, of Norwalk; a grandson, Chris Sharp, of Des Moines; two great-grandsons, Cody Stidham and Skyler Saemisch; nieces and nephews; a special friend, Beth Clark, of Denison; other relatives and friends.
Services will be Wednesday, July 20, 1994, at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Manning with the Rev. Marshall Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Manning City Cemetery.
Casketbearers are nephews Dick Sharp, Denny Sharp, John Sharp, John Doidge, Adam Sharp, Bruce Kienapfel. Honorary casketbearers are Lowell Schroeder, Lester Meggers, Bennie Otto, Marcus Kuhl, Jim Clark, John Bexten, and Golden Kiwanis from Denison.
