Thomas Tarpy Dies at Home Near Westside
Was Resident in That Community 40 Years; Died Suddenly

Thomas A. Tarpy, a farmer in this community for the past 40 years, died at his home one mile north of Westside Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mr. Tarpy had been in ill health for a long time, but it was not generally known that his condition was serious so his death came as a shock to the people of the community.

Thomas Tarpy was born at Clarence, Iowa, January 15, 1869, and passed away August 21, 1937, at the age of 68 years and 7 months.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Tarpy and with his parents came to this community in the year 1879, settling at Vail.

In 1881, the family moved to Manning, where Mr. Tarpy lived until his marriage to Flora White, February 10, 1892. The young couple made their home on a farm north of Westside and has resided in this community since.

Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Tarpy: Grace (Mrs. J.W. Duff) of Mason City, John of Lake View, Hazel (Mrs. Herbert Bandow) of Westside, and Marian (Mrs. Melvin Jans) of Vail, Iowa; all of whom with Mrs. Tarpy are left to mourn his death.

Two children, Vincent Tarpy and Mable Olive, preceded their father in death, Vincent passing away in 1914 and Mable in 1901.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ray, Warren, and Marilyn Duff; Donna Mae and Robert Bandow; Phyllis Jans and Audrey Tarpy.

Two sisters, Mrs. William Harrington, and Mrs. Ella McNeil of Omaha, and one brother, Dan Tarpy of Irwin, Iowa; besides other numerous relatives.

Funeral services were held at St. Ann's Church at Vail at 10 o'clock Monday morning. Rev. Dennis Clark celebrated a requiem high mass and conducted the services. A large number of relatives and friends were in attendance at the services and accompanied the remains to St. Ann's Cemetery at Vail.

Pallbearers were: D.E. Benton, Frank Jans, Carl Segebart, Albert Bandow, James Killeen, and Frank Killeen.
