The family of Tom Musfeldt wishes to extend its appreciation for your kindness and attendance at the funeral service and invites you for lunch and fellowship in the church fellowship hall following graveside rites.
Thomas Edward, son of Herman and Lydia (Asmus) Musfeldt, was born July 16, 1935, on the family farm near Manning, Iowa. He grew up on the farm, attended country school and school in Manning, graduating from Manning High School in 1954. During school, he participated in FFA. Following graduation, Tom worked for Hinz Construction, Musfeldt DX Station and the Manning Creamery.
On June 16, 1957, Tom was united in marriage with LeeAnn Boldt at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. They lived in Manning until 1961, when they moved to LeeAnn's parents' farm near Carroll and began farming. In 1973, they moved to the present family farm near Manilla.
Tom enjoyed farming, especially raising and showing registered Black Angus cattle. He was active and served in various capacities in many cattle organizations including: American Angus Association, Shelby County Cattlemen's Association and Western Iowa Feeder Cattle Producers. In 2004, Tom was named Shelby County Cattleman of the Year.
Tom was very active in 4-H, receiving the 4-H Alumni Award in 1983. He served as a leader, council member and Shelby County Fair beef superintendent for many years.
For several years, Tom was a dealer for Asgrow Seed Corn and Archer Oil. He was also an insurance agent for Home Mutual Insurance Association of Manning, and served on their board of directors.
Tom was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla, where he served as an elder, on the finance board and as an usher. He enjoyed Sunday and Wednesday morning Bible classes.
Tom took great pride in his family and enjoyed attending all of their activities. The family get-togethers were a great pleasure to him. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Tom enjoyed working in his shop, building doll houses and farm buildings for his grandchildren. Throughout the years, he and LeeAnn enjoyed ballroom dancing to big band music. He enjoyed vacationing in the Bahamas, the West Coast, fishing in Canada, and going out west to visit Angus ranches. At home he took pleasure in playing cards, visiting and gardening.
Tom lived for many years with Parkinson's disease and in April of 2008, became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla, Iowa, where he died on Wednesday, July 28, 2010. He was 75 years of age.
Tom is survived by: his wife LeeAnn Musfeldt of Manilla; three sons: Craig Musfeldt and wife Debbie of Manilla; Kent Musfeldt and wife Jill of Coon Rapids; and Kurt Musfeldt and wife Janelle of Harlan; six grandchildren: Justin, Katie, Joel, Sara, Kyle and Chelsea; a sister Ruth Younie of Pomeroy; two brothers David Musfeldt and wife Mary Ann and Sam Musfeldt and wife Judy, all of Manning; a sister-in-law Gloria Popp and her husband Lester; a brother-in-law David Boldt and wife Jane; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; LeeAnn's parents Henry and Loretta Boldt; brothers-in-law Don Younie and Merlin Lenz; and a sister-in-law Lois Struve and husband Glen and their son Cory.
